Veteran planner resigns from Fulton County board

WAUSEON - A longtime member of the Fulton County regional planning commission has resigned from his post.

Swancreek Township Trustee Jim Meyer has announced his resignation from the commission. Richard Stout, a fellow township trustee, was named Swancreek's new representative with the planning group.

Mr. Meyer did not publicly state his reasons for resigning, but his departure comes on the heels of controversy surrounding preliminary approval of a natural resources amendment to the county's comprehensive development plan.

The third Swancreek Township trustee, Randy Ruge, said last week that he was angry that area leaders, including Mr. Meyer, voted 13-1 in favor of a natural resources amendment that left out information about local endangered species.

Swancreek trustees on Monday night agreed to send a letter to the Fulton County commissioners seeking to have the language resubmitted back into the county plan, said township Clerk Robin Tuckerman.

The commissioners have the final say on the amendment, and they're expected to vote on it by mid-May.
