Wood County health commissioner to retire

BOWLING GREEN - Wood County Health Commissioner Larry Sorrells has submitted his resignation to the county health board.

Mr. Sorrells, 53, has worked in public health for more than 31 years, joining the Wood County department in 1981. He was named health commissioner in 1999.

He said he told the board he would stay on as late as February while a replacement is selected.

"I'm looking forward to retirement. I'm looking forward to less pressure," Mr. Sorrells said last week.

"I've been a supervisor for all but six or seven years of my career. I guarantee you, whatever I do for the rest of my life, I won't be supervising people."
