Sylvania: Park board seeks input on land

5/19/2004

The board of The Olander Park System will hold a public meeting Monday at 5 p.m. at Timberstone Junior High School to hear suggestions about how to best utilize the 60-acre site the system recently purchased.

The property is west of Mitchaw Road between Brint Road and Sylvania Avenue.

The Collaborative Inc. has designed a preliminary plan for the park, but Gary Madrzykowski, director of the system, said the plans are a rough draft of what the area will eventually look like. He said board members want public comments before a final plan is developed.

A requirement of the state grant that made the purchase possible is that 80 percent of the property be restored to oak savanna, meadow, and wetlands.

The design shows a water playground and two traditional playgrounds, a sledding hill, and a bicycle path that will run from the junior high school through the park, cross Brint, and connect with the recreational sites in the area of Sylvania-Metamora and Centennial roads.
