New Year's Eve gala is canceled in Lima

LIMA, Ohio - Citing low participation levels, officials with the Lima Symphony Orchestra and the downtown civic center have canceled this year's New Year's Eve gala.

The gala was started in 2001 in the wake of the cancellation of Lima's family-oriented First Night celebration, which was held for two years but scrapped because of financial and managerial concerns.

For the past three years, New Year's Eve revelers could attend the gala, which included dinner, dancing, and a symphony concert. Civic Center Director Brian Keegan said this week that organizers are looking for alternatives.
