Amber alert aids recovery of area boy, 7

7/4/2004

A 7-year-old Northwood boy was found apparently unharmed last night in Toledo after Northwood police issued an Amber alert asking for help finding the child.

Lester Wright was located shortly after 10 p.m. by a Toledo police crew who called out to him as he was walking near Raymer Boulevard and Starr Avenue, Northwood police Chief Jerry Hermane said.

His parents had reported him missing about 7 p.m.; a child fitting his description was spotted about 9 p.m. near the 1800 block of Woodville Road, walking toward Toledo.

The boy's young age, that he lacked shoes and a shirt when he disappeared, and that nightfall was approaching were reasons the alert was issued, Chief Hermane said.

The Amber alert is named for Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl who was abducted in Arlington, Texas, in 1996 and later found slain.
