Bradner clerk-treasurer resigns after 3 months

BRADNER - Three months after taking office as this Wood County village's clerk-treasurer, Bonnie Pearce has resigned.

Her departure prompted village council Thursday night to vote to replace the elected position of clerk-treasurer with a nonelected fiscal officer. Council hopes former Clerk-Treasurer Janice Stump, who lost the November election to Mrs. Pearce, will take the job.

Mayor Ray Zaker said yesterday he has spoken with Ms. Stump, but she made no commitment, in part because her salary would be reduced from about $31,000 a year to $20,000 a year if she came back to work because of changes in the village's policy on insurance coverage.

Since Mrs. Pearce took office April 1, village bills had gone unpaid and financial statements unreconciled. In her resignation letter, she told council, "I know I could've done this job if I would've gotten the help and training I needed in the beginning."
