Firefighters' group gets OK for training facility

FREMONT - Vanguard Sentinel Career Center board members agreed Thursday to allow the Sandusky County Firemen's Association to construct a fire training facility at the rear of the Vanguard property.

Fire departments throughout the county will be able to use the facility, which would be built on the career center's land, owned by the district, for fire training and education, Vanguard Superintendent Dave Danhoff said.

He said the facility will be in a centralized location on plenty of land, so it will be easily accessible for fire trucks.

The project will cost about $45,000, he said, and construction is expected to begin some time in September.
