Wood County dairy farm gets permits from Ohio

8/10/2004

CUSTAR, Ohio - The 925-cow Reyskens Dairy proposed for Wood County's Jackson Township received its permits from the Ohio Department of Agriculture Friday.

Applications for permits were submitted by Mr. van de Heijning, 57, his wife, Mariette, 52, and their sons, Patrick, 28, and Mark, 26, who milk 110 cows in Belgium.

Agriculture department meetings in June in Milton Center, Ohio, regarding the family's requested permits drew record numbers of people. Many spoke against the proposed dairy, citing environmental fears.

A summary of the department's responses to those concerns was posted Friday on its Web site, www.ohioagriculture.gov/lepp.
