Fostoria intends to close 3 more railroad crossings

8/18/2004

FOSTORIA - Mayor John Davoli has announced that three local rail crossings have been proposed for closure.

Two of the crossings, on Cleveland Street and Independence Avenue, will be closed as part of the construction of a grade separation on West Tiffin Street. The other crossing is on East Fremont Street, within a few hundred feet of crossings on High and Sandusky streets.

The city received $150,000 from the Ohio Rail Commission for closing the Lewis Street crossing last year. The commission will give Fostoria $350,000 for the shutdown of the three other crossings. That money will be used to pay the city's share to build three railroad underpasses within the next three years. City Council still must act to approve the closures.
