AmeriCorps may come to Wood County

BOWLING GREEN - Six community partners and Bowling Green State University are designing the first AmeriCorps program for Wood County.

The partners were awarded a $50,000 planning grant from the Ohio Community Service Council to create the program. They hope to attract a second grant for operating funds so they can launch the program next fall.

Jane Rosser, assistant director of BGSU's Partnerships for Community Action, said yesterday that the countywide concept for an AmeriCorps offering is unusual to the area. She said the consortium's focus will include projects such as infrastructure.

A kickoff event is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wood County District Public Library, which is one of the partners.
