Northwood citizens fear Menards traffic

A handful of Northwood residents expressed concern during a public hearing about extra traffic that would be generated if the proposed Menards store is built in Oregon.

About 55 people attended Tuesday's 40-minute hearing held for residents to comment on a zoning amendment application submitted by Menard Inc. to build a store and additional retail business in Oregon near I-280 with access from Curtice Road, City Administrator Pat Bacon said.

Although Menards, the nation's third-largest home-improvement store chain, would be in Oregon, the parking lot, access road, and space for additional businesses would be in Northwood, Ms. Bacon said.

Legislation on Menards may be on the agenda when Village Council meets Sept. 23.
