Salvation Army seeking new collection sites

Local Salvation Army officials are seeking alternative locations for their bell ringers following a recent decision by Target to no longer allow the solicitation on their properties throughout the country.

Maj. Clyde Jones, of the Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio, said the Target department store locations usually net between $20,000 and $30,000 every Christmas season, which is about 10 percent of the amount collected locally at that time of year.

Bob May, the agency's director of development and community relations, said: "They've been a significant part of our campaign. Dollar-wise, it's a significant portion," he said.
