CASTALIA, Ohio A truck driver from Putnam County was killed yesterday when his tractor-trailer collided with a car at an Erie County intersection.

Steven Kerner, 53, of Fort Jennings died when his truck went off State Rt. 4 at Strecker Road, struck a guardrail, and overturned into a creek, according to the Sandusky post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Troopers said he was thrown to the rear of his truck s cab, and that a seat belt would have saved his life.

Troopers said Mr. Kerner was southbound on Route 4 about 9 a.m. when an eastbound car driven by Ashley Hall, 19, of Bellevue failed to yield after stopping for a stop sign and collided with his truck.

Ms. Hall was taken to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals, where she was listed in fair condition last night.
