ADRIAN

  • A fall family fun fest sponsored by a coalition of youth organizations will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lenawee County fairgrounds. A spelling bee, pumpkin painting, face painting, balloon twisting, sand volleyball, and horseshoes are planned. Admission is free.

    BLUFFTON

  • State Sen. Teresa Fedor (D., Toledo) will speak on "No Vote, No Voice," at 11 a.m. tomorrow as part of Bluffton University's Forum in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Singers of all ages are invited to join rehearsals beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow for the Bluffton University Choral Society's 109th performance of Handel's Messiah Dec. 12. Rehearsals will be held in the Gillian Room of Mosiman Hall and will continue each Tuesday until the performance.

  • Lucia Unrau, a professor of music at Bluffton University, will present "A Part of This and A Part of That" at Friday Colloquium at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall at Bluffton University. She will discuss her research into solo piano music of living composers. The lecture is free and open to the public.

    BOWLING GREEN

  • Bowling Green State University Professor Geoffrey Howes will discuss the contributions of German-Americans in northwest Ohio at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood County Historical Center on County Home Road off U.S. 6 just east of I-75. Several students in his German-American Heritage course will discuss projects they are doing on the immigration, settlement, and culture of German-Americans in northwest Ohio.

  • Volunteers are needed to help with nursery care and seed collection from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Agricultural Incubator on State Rt. 582 just west of State Rt. 25. Call the Wood County Park District to register.

  • The BGSU Music Department will be selling nearly new upright, grand, and digital pianos at big savings from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Moore Musical Arts Center at BGSU. The pianos are to be replaced with newer models at no cost to BGSU. For more information, contact the Evola Music Co. of Ohio.

  • Float down the Maumee River in a canoe and enjoy the fall foliage from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Otsego Canoe Livery at Otsego Park. Canoe rental is $30 per canoe. Call the park district to register.

  • Enjoy the fall colors on a bicycle ride along the Slippery Elm Trail with a naturalist from the Wood County Park District from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, beginning in Rudolph. Call the park district to register.

  • Join the park district and the Wood County District Public Library for a scarecrow-making workshop from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carter-Loomis Farm Park north of Bowling Green. Participants bring the clothes; straw will be provided. Call the park district to register.

    FINDLAY

  • Children riding the Findlay & Northwest Ohio Railroad's "pumpkin train" will get to choose their own pumpkin. The quarter-scale train runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays the next three weekends at the home of Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation Inc. on County Road 99 just east of I-75. Rides are $1. A "train of terror and haunted engine house" begin Friday and run from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in October. The $5 train ride is not recommended for small children.

    PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP

  • Care Fair for Health 2004 will be held Wednesday at Owens Community College, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area campus, 30335 Oregon Rd. There will be more than 60 displays on health issues. The event is sponsored by the Owens health technologies division's faculty and students.

  • A free job fair will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the Student Health and Activities Center on Owens Community College's Toledo-area campus. Residents and students can meet representatives of more than a dozen local businesses. Those who attend should take a resume and dress professionally.

  • All Catholic high schools students and their parents are invited to College Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Franciscan Center of Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd. Over 100 representatives from colleges, universities, and the military will attend.

    TIFFIN

  • Tiffin University will host a presidential "Debatewatch" at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in Chisholm Auditorium. The event will bring citizens together to watch the televised debate between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry and discuss it.

    TOLEDO

  • Dr. Jim Geiger of Mercy Children's Hospital at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center will speak about "Robotic Surgery" today during a noon luncheon of the Rotary Club of Toledo at Zenobia Shrine, 1511 Madison Ave.

  • The Toledo Computer Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at the UAW Local 14 Hall, 5411 Jackman Rd.

  • Wally Amos, the founder of Famous Amos Cookies, Uncle Wally's Muffin Co., and Aunt Della's Cookies, will speak at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Student Union Room 3020 on the University of Toledo main campus. The talk is part of UT's "The Society of Success and Leadership" series.

  • The University of Toledo purchasing department will hold a surplus-property computer sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Westwood Building, 328 Westwood Ave. All sales are cash-only and include sales tax.

  • The Children's Library located on the second floor of the Main Library, 325 Michigan St., will host a Sesame Street Live guest at 11 a.m. Thursday for a "story time" program. The program is free and open to the public.

  • The St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary's Women of the Year award ceremony will be held during a luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Toledo Club, Madison Avenue and 14th Street.

  • Area health professionals will speak about women's health during a community event set for noon to 6 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Wal-Mart store at 2925 Glendale Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Cheyl Ward, associate professor of anthropology at Florida State University at Tallahassee, will give a lecture and slide-video presentation titled "In Search of Pompey's Pirates and Other Cilicians of Roman Times" at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Haigh Auditorium's Room VA 9 at the University of Toledo's Center for the Visual Arts, adjoining the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St. The event is sponsored by Toledo Society, the local chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America. It is free and open to the public.

  • The Toledo version of the 11th annual America's Walk for Diabetes will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Toledo Zoo. Registration is at 9 a.m. The walk is 1.5 miles. The start and finish line is at the zoo's main entrance off the Anthony Wayne Trail parking lot. The event includes music, clowns, lunch, and a healthy-living fair.

  • The Toledo section of the American Chemical Society will host hands-on activities and displays during a "Chemistry in Health and Wellness" family event to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Toledo Zoo in celebration of National Chemistry Week.

  • New York actress Wambui Bahati will be featured at the 30th anniversary reception of the Zepf Community Mental Health Center, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library downtown.
