Tax revenues jump for B.G. s visitors bureau

10/4/2004

BOWLING GREEN The local convention and visitors bureau saw a $2,672 increase in its share of the city s hotel/motel tax last year, a state audit showed.

The increase in bed tax revenue from $39,270 in 2002 to $41,942 in 2003 was likely caused by the addition of an 82-room Hampton Inn that opened in March, 2003.

Since a 73-room Holiday Inn Express on Wooster Street just east of I-75 opened this spring, tax revenue is expected to climb again.

The convention and visitors bureau, whose main support is the 3 percent bed tax, receives 35 percent of the hotel/motel tax revenue to promote tourism in Bowling Green. The rest goes to the city s general fund.
