Delta receives bids to update its water plant

10/5/2004

DELTA - Bids for the village of Delta's proposed water treatment plant improvements came in at about $4.1 million, about $180,000 under the first round of bids, council members were told last night. The engineer's estimate for those improvements is $4.6 million, with the total project cost at about $6 million.

Council set a special meeting at 7 Monday night to consider possible water-rate increases for customers. The average monthly bill could increase from $17 to about $21, according to preliminary figures from Gary Baker, village administrator, who said he would provide council members with information in time for the Monday session about how the rate increase would affect other customers. In addition to possibly raising water rates, plans call for the village to seek a loan to help pay for the project.

Earlier this year, Delta received approval from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for plans to build a water treatment plant that would be the first of its kind in the state. The new plant would feature a system that uses microfiltration and reverse osmosis technologies.
