Opening of Lenawee jail put off until at least Oct. 31

The opening of the new Lenawee County jail has been delayed at least until the end of the month, county officials announced yesterday.

Delivery and installation of glass to be used in the structure was delayed by various state requirements.

Additionally, various security doors in the facility still need to be approved by the state. Should the process lag, the new opening date of Oct. 31 could be extended, officials said.

Construction on the $7.5 million, 300-bed facility began in summer, 2003.
