VAN WERT, Ohio - A Worthington, Ohio, firm announced plans yesterday for a $6 million retail development on the north side of Van Wert.

The 122-acre Towne Center near the intersections of U.S. 224, U.S. 30, and U.S. 127 will include a Super Wal-mart, a Hampton Inn, and several smaller retail stores and restaurants, including Ponderosa, McDonald's, and Subway.

Local and county officials have worked out a tax-increment financing package with the developer, Equity Real Estate Development, which will allow the city to use tax revenues from the project to pay for streets, water and sewer, and other infrastructure improvements at the site.
