Swanton Township trustees will cut fire, rescue levies

10/12/2004

SWANTON - Swanton Township trustees agreed last night to reduce the millage for their fire and rescue levies effective January, 2005.

The 1.4-mill fire levy will be reduced to 0.6 mills and the

1-mill rescue department levy will also be reduced to 0.6 mills.

Trustees will submit the figures to the Lucas County auditor, said Trustee Dennis Tippie, who said the action is being taken because of a $248,000 carryover in the fire and rescue fund. The excess equals about two years of the fire budget.

The township has contracts for fire and rescue services with the village of Swanton and Providence Township.
