Waterville takes steps to revitalize historic area

10/12/2004

Waterville Village Council voted yesterday to take the first step toward joining the Ohio Main Street Program, an initiative that guides cities in revitalizing their historic areas.

The village and the Waterville Chamber of Commerce will each pay $500 to fund a two-day study by experts from the Main Street program, Village Administrator Jay Bahr said. The study, scheduled for January, will assess what strategies Waterville may use for economic development and historic preservation.

Mr. Bahr said the village can benefit from an outside perspective and technical help with grant writing and training that Main Street provides.

Several communities in the region participate in the Ohio Main Street Program, including Bowling Green, Sandusky, Findlay, and the Auburndale, Lagrange, and Uptown neighborhoods in Toledo.
