Fort Meigs again is open 5 days a week

10/21/2004

Fort Meigs returns to its full schedule of five-days-a-week operation through Dec. 31, effective immediately, the Ohio Historical Society announced.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students through October. From Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, adult admission is $4; student admission remains $3.

The site will be closed from Jan. 1 to April 1, except for community meetings and for group visits by appointment.

Fort Meigs also will have six new flags representing prisoners of war and the five branches of the military when flagpoles and lights are installed this month along the entrance to its Museum and Education Center, the Historical Society said.

The project was funded by a $30,000 gift from retired Maj. Gen. Ray Mason, who is a retired Columbus business owner and a philanthropist.

Lathrop Construction of Toledo and Colgan-Davis Inc., an electrical firm in Maumee, will install the flagpoles and lights at no cost to the historical society.
