Swanton: New water tap fees increase by $450

10/20/2004

The fee for new water taps in Swanton is being increased from $550 to $1,000 under an ordinance approved by Village Council.

The ordinance sets a tap fee of $2,000 for all new taps outside of the village. The previous amount was $550.

The village hasn't had a significant increase in water tap fees in 14 years, according to Jon Gochenour, village administrator. The $550 rate for taps inside the village was between $200 and $1,000 lower than rates charged by other communities in the area, officials said. The council's water and sewer committee recommended that the board consider increasing the water tap fees.

Councilman David Pilliod voted no on the measure.
