FOSTORIA Good Shepherd Home received word Friday that it will get $1.42 million in federal assistance for an apartment complex for senior citizens.

The grant is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Good Shepherd submitted the application in June, outlining a plan for 14 single-bedroom apartments to provide independent living for elderly residents in Fostoria.

The project will be designed for independent individuals who are at least 62 and meet the average monthly income guidelines.

The 500-square-foot apartments will be built adjacent to the nursing home s assisted living unit.
