County warning sirens to be tested on Tuesday

12/11/2004

Lucas County emergency sirens will sound at 7 p.m. Tuesday to remind residents to practice their home fire escape plans.

Toledo Fire Chief Mike Bell urged residents to develop and practice plans with their children to avoid tragedies, such as the deaths of seven children in October during a blaze at a South Toledo apartment complex.

Yesterday, the fire department sponsored Great Escape II, which was intended to provide every elementary school child with a home escape plan.

Meanwhile, free smoke detectors are available to qualified Toledo residents at fire headquarters, 545 North Huron St., or at any Toledo fire station.
