Two sought in fatal Hillsdale County shooting

12/11/2004

HILLSDALE - Hillsdale County Prosecutor Neal Brady has authorized two arrest warrants in the death of a Taylor, Mich., man who was shot fatally while hunting with friends.

Michael Aguirre, 27, was shot Nov. 16 while hunting in a city-owned wetland area near M-99.

A warrant for Christopher Nagel, 22, of Taylor charges him with careless discharge of a firearm causing death. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in prison.

A warrant for another man in the hunting party, Dean Thompson, 20, of Taylor, charges him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was convicted in 2002 of cocaine possession. If convicted of the firearm possession charge, he could be sentenced to five years in prison.

Hillsdale officials said the land is not a posted no-hunting zone, but that a local ordinance prohibits the firing of a weapon for sports purposes on city-owned property.
