FREMONT - The Sandusky County commissioners yesterday approved a $17.2 million budget for 2005 that includes 3.25 percent pay raises for nonunion employees.
The budget is up slightly from this year's appropriation of $16.5 million. But at least one county officeholder is objecting to the proposed spending for his departments.
Judge Brad Culbert told the commissioners yesterday in an e-mail message that their proposed budget would not provide enough funding for the juvenile and probate courts and the county's juvenile detention center. Judge Culbert said the budget is more than $32,000 short for the probate court, more than $39,000 short for the juvenile court, and more than $52,000 short for the detention center.
Terry Thatcher, president of the commissioners, said he and his colleagues believe they have adequately funded Judge Culbert's departments but will meet with him next month to discuss his concerns.
