Ohio EPA seeks input on marina channel work

1/6/2005

MARBLEHEAD, Ohio The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a public hearing next week on a proposal by a Danbury Township condominium development to create a marina channel entrance in the Sandusky Bay.

The session is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Danbury Local Schools, 9451 East Harbor Rd.

Bayview Shores Condominiums has applied for water-quality certification for the project, which would include a 50-foot-wide marina channel, a 140-foot-long breakwater, and other structures to prevent beach erosion.

As part of the project, Bayview Shores proposes dredging a trapezoid-shaped area next to the entrance.

The federal Clean Water Act requires anyone discharging dredged or fill material into Ohio waters to obtain a water quality certification from Ohio EPA and a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Ohio EPA will accept written comments through Jan. 18 at Ohio EPA, Division of Surface Water, Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio, 43216-1049.
