Fostoria, police officers approve 3-year contracts

FOSTORIA - The city and the union that represents police patrolmen and command officers have agreed to a pair of three-year contracts that include a wage freeze for 2005.

Members of both units of the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association approved the agreements Monday, as did City Council.

The contracts include wage and benefit reopeners for 2006 and 2007.

Scott Hofacker, a former OPBA president who helped negotiate the contract for the patrolmen's unit, said the officers this month received a 3 percent pay raise that was part of the previous pact. Union members agreed last year to defer the raise to reduce a layoff of patrol officers from four to three.
