Lyons: Drainage, street work could start in spring

1/12/2005

LYONS - Construction work on road improvements along South Adrian Street could begin this spring, officials said.

Lyons Village Council members have recommended that Anderzack-Pitzen Construction of Metamora - one of nine bids submitted - be awarded the project, said Vicki Smith, Lyons village administrator.

Anderzack-Pitzen's bid of $138,638 was below the estimated cost of $162,355, she said. Work is to include drainage improvements and street repaving from Morenci Street to the village's corporation limits. The project covers roadway along two to three blocks, she said.

Because the village has been awarded funds through the state's Community Development Block Grant program to cover a portion of the cost for the improvements, Fulton County commissioners will have final say on awarding of the contract, Ms. Smith said.

Construction work is expected to begin in the spring and be completed by June 3.

Jan Burkhard, Fulton County grants coordinator, said that Lyons is to receive $35,000 in CDBG funds for the project.
