FINDLAY - Hancock County and the city of Findlay received a $6,000 grant yesterday to help implement an enhanced 911 system.

The SBC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of SBC Communications, awarded the grant to help combine the city and county's address databases, which will enable 911 operators at both agencies to electronically locate callers and immediately dispatch crews to that location.

Hancock County Sheriff Michael Heldman said eventually the 911 system will have the capability of providing a map showing the caller's location even if the caller is unable to speak or identify the location. The technology will also identify the nearest emergency responder and map out the quickest route to the caller's location.
