Findlay mayor proposes steps to lure businesses

FINDLAY - Mayor Tony Iriti wants to see Findlay establish its own port authority as well as an enterprise zone to attract and retain businesses.

In his state of the city address Tuesday at the University of Findlay, the mayor called both ideas "additional economic development tools" that would aid efforts to attract businesses to locate within the city limits.

"Why not build where infrastructure already exists?" the mayor asked. "Simply said, let's grow up, not out."

An enterprise zone would allow the city to offer tax abatement incentives to companies that want to expand or locate here, while a port authority would be a vehicle for offering creative financing options for businesses, he said.
