Rossford: Residents complain about trash collection

2/16/2005

Rossford Mayor Bill Verbosky, Jr., and city administrator Ed Ciecka said they would discuss residents' concerns over refuse collection with Waste Management of Ohio Inc., the company the city hired to pick up solid waste and recycling.

Residents have complained that the trash pickup crews leave messes; that the three-container limit creates a possible hardship for some residents; and that people who leave the city on extended vacations should not have to pay the monthly fee when they aren't there to put out trash.

Some residents have said that Waste Management considers three kitchen-size garbage bags as three containers, even though all three bags could fit in one 40-gallon trash can. Councilman Larry Oberdorf, Sr., said that some elderly residents said they find it easier to carry several smaller bags to the curb rather than dragging one large container.
