Springfield Township: Grant would pay for park equipment

2/16/2005

Officials have applied for a grant to purchase play equipment for the township's newest park.

The 3-acre site in the Lincoln Green neighborhood between Shrewsbury Drive and U.S. 23-I-475 had been vacant with debris-clogged Harvest Ditch running along its southern edge until an effort began in 2003 to develop the site.

The township is seeking a $30,000 state grant that can also be used for landscaping and for paving a path to the playground.

The county operated a sewage pumping station there, which was abandoned in the 1970s after gravity sewers were installed and the land was left untended.
