Sylvania Township sends refuse plan to haulers

2/16/2005

Sylvania Township trustees approved a proposal to send to waste hauling firms in a step toward establishing a township-wide refuse collection program.

An earlier attempt resulted in only one company responding, and that proposal was deemed too expensive to be considered.

Township Administrator Brad Peebles told trustees that one of the changes is to drop a requirement for a performance bond.

Companies had told him that the contract would be more attractive if it included all township residents, although each would have the option to reject the service .

Trustees said they would prefer a service that allows homeowners to sign up for the single company on a voluntary basis. Even with the ability to opt-out, trustees said they didn't like the idea of entering into an agreement on behalf of all residents.

Mr. Peebles said the proposal going out to the firms includes both scenarios.
