Wauseon: Vet to receive his high school diploma

2/16/2005

A World War II veteran who left Wauseon High School's class of 1944 to serve in the U.S. military will receive a diploma.

Wauseon Exempted Village Board of Education voted unanimously this week to award a diploma to Lester Lowe, Jr.

Mr. Lowe lives with his daughter Pat Lowe in Grove City, near Columbus.

He is the second World War II veteran to receive a diploma from Wauseon High School under a law that Ohio Gov. Bob Taft signed in 2001 allowing school boards to grant diplomas to World War II veterans who left school for the military and received an honorable discharge.

In Fulton County about a dozen veterans have received diplomas, according to the Fulton County Veterans Service Office.
