The Lucas County auditor's office has begun accepting 2005 applications for the homestead tax exemption, which allows senior citizens and people who are disabled to get a property tax break.

To qualify, applicants must be 65 or older or totally and permanently disabled, own and occupy a home or mobile home as of Jan. 1, and have a total household income, including Social Security, of no more than $25,400.

Those interested in applying may contact the auditor's office for a form. Those already enrolled will receive a renewal form in the mail before the end of March. Applications are due at the auditor's office by 5 p.m. June 6.
