Oregon truck driver hurt in pileup on I-75 in Monroe County

3/2/2005

MONROE - A chain-reaction pileup on a snowy I-75 yesterday morning sent an Oregon truck driver to the hospital and halted northbound traffic for several hours, authorities said.

The accident occurred when a northbound tractor-trailer driven by David Callahan collided with the rear of a stopped tractor-trailer at mile marker 9 at 11 a.m. Three other tractor-trailers were involved in the accident, but no one else was injured, Monroe County sheriff deputies said.

At the time, traffic was stopped because of a noninjury accident about three miles farther north, deputies said.

Mr. Callahan was in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with leg injuries. His condition was not available. Northbound I-75 traffic was backed up until 2 p.m., deputies said.
