Fears dashed of coyote on the loose in Walbridge

3/12/2005

A roaming dog, which some Walbridge residents feared was a coyote, has been captured.

Walbridge Mayor Dan Wilczynski said residents originally were concerned that a coyote was roaming in the community because of the animal's appearance.

When several Walbridge residents eventually caught the animal Wednesday, a representative of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Wood County Dog Warden Paula Hamman told Mr. Wilczynski the animal was a dog that was part husky, with traces of coyote.

Mayor Wilczynski said the dog most likely will be adopted by a village resident.

In case a similar situation arises in the future, Walbridge Village Council scheduled an informational meeting regarding coyotes with Chris Dwyer, a state biologist, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the municipal building.
