Kelleys Island meeting on wastewater issues set

KELLEYS ISLAND - State environmental officials will conduct a public hearing March 29 on the proposed replacement of a wastewater treatment center for an island business and a request for a wastewater discharge permit.

The hearing by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the village hall, 121 Addison St. The permit applications have been filed by the Kelleys Island Wine Co.

The proposed wastewater treatment plant would have a capacity of 4,000 gallons a day and would replace a failed septic system.

Treated wastewater would be discharged into Lake Erie, according to the EPA.

Written comments can be submitted through April 5 to the Ohio EPA, Division of Surface Water, Attention: Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1049.
