Archbold designated Tree City for 22nd year

3/21/2005

ARCHBOLD The village has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor the town s commitment to its community forest. It marks the 22nd year that Archbold has received the national recognition.

Between 90 and 100 trees will be planted here this year.

Since 1995, the village has planted more than 1,500 trees, and removed about 280. Last year the village spent more than $85,000 on tree-related activities, including planting new trees; trimming trees; removing trees and stumps; watering and mulching of young trees; brush chipping and disposal, and disposing leaves and other yard waste, according to Dennis Howell, village administrator.

Archbold has met the four standards to earn a Tree City USA designation: assemble a tree board or department; have a tree care ordinance; have a comprehensive community forestry program, and have an Arbor Day observance.
