A West Toledo man died yesterday about two hours after his car crashed into a sign, a fence, and a building on Phillips Avenue near Lewis Avenue, authorities said.

John A. Abramczyk, 59, of 5315 Lewis Ave., died about 12:10 p.m. in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Lucas County coroner's office.

Mr. Abramczyk was driving south on Lewis about 9:50 a.m. when he didn't complete a turn onto eastbound Phillips. His car hit a "no parking" sign, went through a fence, and hit a building housing Lighthouse Branding and Merchandising Agency, 963 Phillips, near Mancy's Steaks, police said.

Police said he had previous medical conditions that may have precipitated the accident. They said he'd had previous heart problems.
