A 20-year-old Fremont man died this week while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico, and his family is still waiting to hear from Mexican authorities why he died.

Eric T. "Bud" Horn arrived in Cancun Saturday, flying there with friends from Fremont and the University of Cincinnati, where he was a student, his father, Gary Horn said. Mr. Horn said he learned of his son's death from a hospital emergency room physician in Cancun. The doctor told him that his son was dead on arrival at the hospital, but that staff had tried to revive him.

"He mentioned he had had cardiac arrest at some point," Mr. Horn said, adding his son had no known history of heart problems. Mr. Horn said he did not know what son was doing before he became ill.

University of Cincinnati spokesman Greg Hand said yesterday the university had not received official notification of the death and had no details about it.

A spokesman for the Hospiten Cancun said she was not allowed to release patient information.
