Gas prices set another record

Gas prices rose in many areas in and around Toledo yesterday - up to $2.259 - but drivers could save 27 cents a gallon by heading to the city's west side.

At the Speedway at Talmadge Road and Sylvania Avenue yesterday evening, Toledo police crews helped keep traffic under control as drivers flocked to the station, which was selling unleaded regular gas for only $1.999 a gallon.

A person who answered the phone there said he was not aware of any sale promotion and was too busy to talk.

At the same intersection, BP was selling unleaded regular for $2.259, the same price as its Reynolds Road-Heatherdowns Boulevard location in South Toledo.

At the Shell station at Secor Road and Sylvania Avenue, the price for a gallon of unleaded regular soared from $2.079 on Tuesday to $2.259 yesterday.

That's almost as much as premium gas at the BP at State Rt. Rt. 25 and Eckel Junction Road in Perrysburg, which was selling a gallon of regular for $2.049 and premium for $2.269.

At BP's Front and Main streets location, drivers filled up at $2.09 a gallon. "It's been quite a circus, actually," cashier Andrew Ronau said.

At the BP at 8203 Lewis Ave. in Temperance, a gallon of unleaded regular gas yesterday rose to $2.199.

Yesterday's hike was an all-time record for Toledo-area gasoline prices. The previous all-time record: A week ago when a gallon of unleaded regular hit $2.199. The all-time record previous to that: two weeks ago, at $2.159 for a gallon of unleaded regular.
