Delta: Roads to be repaved; officer hired full-time

4/6/2005

Village officials here are considering a repaving project along portions of Taylor and Fernwood streets this summer.

Council this week took the first step toward advertising for bids for the project that has a tentative cost estimate of $66,000. Gary Baker, village administrator, is recommending improvements along Taylor from Main to Fernwood, about four blocks, and along Fernwood from McKinley to Taylor streets, about two blocks. Engineering work hasn't been done yet.

Also Monday night, council voted 5-0 to accept the recommendation of Delta Police Chief Garry Chamberlin to appoint Eloy A. Perez Jr. to a full-time patrolman position, filling the vacancy created when Martin Collum resigned in November.

Mr. Perez will serve the required six-month probationary period during which time he will be paid $13.67 an hour.

Council member Cathy Buehrer did not attend the meeting.
