Walbridge: Some recreation fees to increase

4/14/2005

Walbridge baseball teams will pay a higher fee this year, but residents who have pool passes will not.

Walbridge Village Council raised the fees for baseball teams at last week's meeting. Village teams will pay $150, an increase of $25, and teams from outside the village will pay $200, an increase of $50.

The increase passed 4-1, with Councilman Mark Timmons voting no. Councilman Mark Bollin was absent.

Council agreed 3-2 to leave the fees for Aqua Terrace pool passes unchanged. Residents will pay $110 a family; nonresidents will pay $175. Mr. Timmons and Council President Ron Liwo voted no.

Mr. Timmons expressed concern that the fees do not cover the village's costs to run the pool.

He said last year, a number of residents complained that the pool, which is heated, was too cold, and increasing the fees could pay for heat.

He said there may be some maintenance work that needs to be done as well.

In other action the village accepted a $10,000 donation from CSX Transportation that will help fund the children's summer camp, the baseball and softball program, and the lifeguards who teach swim lessons.
