Sandusky County OKs bills for dispute with judge

FREMONT - The Sandusky County commissioners yesterday approved payment of the final legal bill for their dispute with Judge Brad Culbert over the use of courthouse office space.

The commissioners agreed to pay $13,175 for legal work done in March and April by the Toledo law firm of Spengler Nathanson, which represented them in their legal battle with the county's juvenile and probate judge. They earlier paid the Toledo firm $16,345 for work done between January and March.

Last week, the commissioners agreed to pay $36,482 to the Fremont firm of Albrechta & Coble, which represented Judge Culbert.

The two sides reached a settlement April 5 that awarded a disputed first-floor office to the county auditor's tax map staff and gave the judge a smaller nearby office in the northeast corner for use by his staff.
