ADA, Ohio - An Alger, Ohio, woman was killed yesterday when a westbound train passing through Ada struck her shortly after midnight, authorities said.

Tonya Collins, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was to be performed at the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.

Ms. Collins drove to a parking lot beside the railroad tracks, got out of the car, and walked toward the tracks. She was standing within two feet of the north tracks between Main and Gilbert streets when the seven-unit locomotive struck her, Ada police Chief Michael Harnishfeger said.

Ms. Collins' boyfriend, who was in the car at the time, witnessed the incident, the chief said.
