Safety-service applicants down to 3 in Fostoria

FOSTORIA - Mayor John Davoli has narrowed the search for the city's next safety-service director to three finalists, and said he could hire one of them by the end next week.

The mayor said he planned to have the finalists interviewed next week by the city's department heads, who each will recommend a candidate by secret ballot. Mr. Davoli said he would carefully consider the officials' opinions before hiring someone.

He declined yesterday to identify the finalists, saying he had not yet informed them. The safety-service director's job became open March 18 when Mr. Davoli dismissed Ralph Wise.

Mr. Davoli said whoever is chosen would be paid a starting salary of $48,000 a year and then receive a raise in January, 2006, to $53,992, the amount paid to Mr. Wise.
