Monroe County memorial to honor Iraq war dead

4/28/2005

MONROE The Monroe County Board of Commissioners has approved installing a memorial plaque at the county courthouse commemorating residents killed in the Iraq war.

The bronze plaque, to hang next to similar markers for other wars, will cost about $1,900, said board Chairman Jerry Oley, who proposed the idea. To date, two county residents have died in the war since the United States invaded Iraq in March, 2003, Mr. Oley said.
