Truck crash injures driver, disrupts I-280

5/4/2005

Traffic on northbound I-280 near Summit Street was interrupted for about 20 minutes yesterday when a tractor-trailer blew a tire and crashed into the center barrier, injuring the driver and spilling about 60 gallons of diesel fuel from a ruptured saddle tank, authorities said.

The driver, who was pinned in the wreckage for a time, was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. His injuries were not life-threatening, said Toledo fire Lt. Joe Schwanzl, who was at the scene.

The driver's name and condition were not released.

The accident occurred about 6:25 p.m. Traffic on the interstate resumed at 6:44 p.m. once clean-up crews removed most of the spilled fuel, police said.
